Lake Minnewanka Elopement – Banff Elopement Photographer
For couples dreaming of getting married in Banff, this intimate Lake Minnewanka elopement was the perfect adventure.
Brenna & Aaron’s Intimate Lake Minnewanka Elopement – The Morning OF
Brenna and Aaron planned an intimate Lake Minnewanka elopement for July 2025. It was a beautiful sunny day that day, although there was a chance of rain later that afternoon. Summer 2025 was a rainy one and the weather made no exceptions. However, I came prepared with clear umbrellas just incase. Similarly to Kristen and Michael’s wedding on the rainiest day in June, I was prepared. I captured this beautiful day on both digital and film.
Brenna and Aaron’s wedding morning started off slow and intentional. They spent the morning together with some of their friends and witnesses before parting ways to get ready for their first look. Brenna did her own hair and makeup which looked beautiful! Some delicate baby’s breath was added to her hair as she had opted for no veil. Her stunning dress from Durand Bridal in Calgary was the perfect elopement dress. You’ll see what I mean when you scroll down to the portraits!
First Look & Private Vows
Brenna and Aaron shared a private first look and vows in front of the majestic Cascade Mountain in Banff. Their heartfelt vows were so beautifully written and full of emotion. After they exchanged their personal vows, we snapped a few portraits in the meadow before heading up to Lake Minnewanka for the ceremony. While rain clouds started rolling in over the mountain tops, the clouds gave way to a small sun shower. The sun came out as Brenna and Aaron cozied up together in the meadow among the wildflowers.
Lakeside Ceremony at Lake Minnewanka
Brenna and Aaron had scouted Lake Minnewanka a couple months prior to find the spot they were hoping to have their ceremony. The lakeside spot they had decided on provided the most picturesque backdrop for their ceremony with both Mount Rundle and Mount Girouard in view. Aaron’s mother officiated their ceremony and did such a beautiful job – it was such a special way to include her.
Surrounded by 20 of their closest friends and family, Brenna and Aaron exchanged rings and made it official.
Portraits in banff
As a Banff elopement photographer, Lake Minnewanka is one of my favourite (and most requested) spots. These portraits, mostly film, are some of my absolute favourites. We noticed that the clouds were quickly rolling in around us. After spending some time using Mount Girouard as our backdrop, the wind picked up and it started raining. We made our way into the trees for shelter from the rain.
In typical Banff fashion, it began to rain on and off throughout portraits. As dark clouds rolled over Cascade mountain and thunder began to rumble, we were able to finish portraits at one of my favourite meadows. As we got in the car, heavy droplets of rain began to pound down on the windshield.
Reception at Lupo Banff
Brenna and Aaron had an intimate dining room booked at Lupo for their reception. In addition to having incredible food, Lupo also has a very unique vibe. A neon sign and tiled floor greets you in the lobby, which makes for a really cool photo spot. Brenna and Aaron had a gorgeous cake with pressed flowers made by Bake My Day.
Final Thoughts On Brenna & Aaron’s Magical Lake Minnewanka Elopement
Overall, Brenna and Aaron’s intimate Lake Minnewanka elopement was nothing short of perfect. Even though there was rain in the forecast, they embraced it. While we can’t control the weather, Brenna and Aaron’s day is a testament to the fact that rain will not ruin your wedding day. What matters most is being present and remembering that at the end of the day, you’re marrying your best friend. It can’t get any more perfect than that!
