Intimate Backyard Wedding in Canmore

For couples dreaming of a backyard wedding, this intimate backyard wedding in Canmore was a charming celebration.

Alex & Allen’s intimate backyard wedding in Canmore – the morning of

Alex and Allen had an intimate backyard wedding at Alex’s childhood home in Canmore. It was a beautiful summer day in the mountains. Nestled on a quiet yet picturesque street, Allen and the groomsmen got ready in an airbnb next door to where the festivities would be taking place. Allen’s navy blue suit beautifully complimented the pastel blue bridesmaids dresses and pops of blue within their florals.

Alex and her bridesmaids spent the morning getting ready at her childhood home. Beautiful handmade paper vow books added a beautiful yet organic element to the details. Alex’s bouquet was beautiful and colourful, reminiscent of mountain wildflowers. Her silk wedding dress was chic and classic, beautifully paired with a chiffon scarf.

First Look & Personal Vows

Shortly before guests began to arrive for the ceremony, Alex and Allen shared a private first look and personal vows behind her parents’ home to remain out of view. After taking a moment to be alone together, we headed back inside to get ready for the ceremony to begin.

Intimate Backyard wedding Ceremony at Alex’s childhood home

A beautiful ceremony space was set up in the backyard with Alex’s mother’s garden serving as the backdrop. An elegant linen sign greeted guests at the front of the home. With most of their guests being local to Canmore, everyone seemed to know everyone as the gathering felt incredibly welcoming and homey.

As Alex walked down the aisle with her dad, both her grandparents stood to greet her. Alex had mentioned to me beforehand that both of her grandparents have mobility issues and to keep this in mind for the family photos. The photo of her turning toward her grandparents as they stood was her genuine shock and surprise to see them standing for her with everybody else. It has become one of my favourite photos from their ceremony.

The ceremony was officiated by Aydin Odyakmaz, who also happens to be a family friend of the bride’s family. The ceremony was short and sweet. As Alex and Allen exchanged rings, I noticed Allen’s mother getting emotional as she watched the ceremony. Following the ceremony, everyone continued to mingle in the backyard as buckets of ice cold drinks were waiting for guests.

WEDDING PARTY

Not too far from Alex’s parents home is this beautiful lush mountain meadow. With a stunning view of the Three Sisters Mountains, it was the perfect, picturesque backdrop for the wedding party portraits. The blue tones in the wedding party attire perfectly complemented the landscape of the meadow that day. From beautiful blue skies to blue snapdragons in the bouquets, the navy and pastel blues were the perfect choice.

PORTRAITS

As a Canmore wedding photographer, this location is one of my favourites for portraits. There is no shortage of mountain views from any direction. We spent some time in the meadow before heading off to Cross Zee Ranch for the reception. I love leaning into movement based posing for open spaces like meadows. This allows me to capture your connection in a more organic way.

RECEPTION AT CROSS ZEE RANCH

Alex and Allen’s wedding reception was at Cross Zee Ranch. Ashley with Signature Weddings by Ashley (one of my favourite local planners in Canmore) did a beautiful job with planning and executing the couple’s vision. Vases with single stem florals lined each table. Various unique glasses were placed at each setting with a thank you note as favours for the guests. These glasses were thrifted by the couple.

The evening commenced with dinner, followed by speeches. Later in the evening, the coupled shared a first pour together in place of a first dance. Let this be your sign that if you and your partner are not dancers, there are other unique things you can do that feel more aligned. Don’t be afraid to break with traditions that don’t feel right to you and your partner!

The Bulldogs band got the party started with some incredible song covers. Homemade desserts made by Allen’s mother and friends were set out for guests to enjoy as they danced the night away.

In short, let this be your reminder to block out the trends when wedding planning. What are some things or places that mean alot to you and your partner?
