Gothic Inspired Engagement Session
For couples who find romance in the macabre and passion in the poetic lyrics of My Chemical Romance, a gothic inspired engagement session is the perfect way to immortalize your love story.
SETTING THE SCENE
Dressed in the most incredible outfits, Alyx and Jay’s style perfectly complemented the vibe for their engagement session. Alyx wore a flowing black lace gown, reminiscent of a Victorian mourning dress. Jay opted for sleek leather pants and jacket with a red tie—seemingly an homage to Gerard Way’s look in the iconic Helena music video.
The inspiration for this session was drawn straight from the heart of the MCR aesthetic—dark, theatrical, and dripping with emotion. The couple, both longtime fans of the band, wanted their engagement photos to reflect their shared love for dramatic romance, gothic elegance, and, of course, the band that helped shape their relationship. A fun little fact: Alyx & Jay got engaged at a My Chemical Romance concert in Toronto a couple years ago, so it was only fitting to bring those influences into their engagement session.
A HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL BACKDROP
To capture the full essence of their gothic romance, the couple sought my help in finding the perfect location that exuded mystery and charm. Knox United Church, with its towering gothic architecture offered the perfect backdrop for their session. A steady rain fell throughout the session adding a moody atmosphere that complemented the gothic theme. The striking sandstone architecture of the Union Cemetery gates contrasted beautifully against the couple’s dark attire, adding an air of haunting elegance. The session continued in Gerry Shaw Garden, where cobblestone pathways and vintage lamp posts cast a nostalgic glow, enhancing the gothic atmosphere. The historic charm of the garden provided a moody, intimate setting for breathtaking shots.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Engagement sessions should reflect the heart and soul of a couple, and this gothic inspired engagement session was nothing short of iconic. For those who find beauty in the dark, romance in the melancholic, and passion in music, an engagement session inspired by My Chemical Romance is the perfect way to say, “ I would drive on to the end with you.”
