Fairmont Palliser Wedding on Film

For couples drawn to the dreamy feel of film, this Fairmont Palliser Wedding on film is the perfect mix of timeless and nostalgic.

Jamie & Lukas’ Fairmont palliser wedding on film – The wedding Morning

In August 2025 I was asked by my friends Bray and Nat if I would be interested in photographing a Fairmont Palliser wedding alongside them, entirely on film. This was both exciting and terrifying because while I have photographed a few weddings using both digital and film previously, I had never let go of digital entirely.

I was excited and up for the challenge because I knew it would help me hone in on my film skills. For a bit of background, I learned how to shoot manually on film at my time at OCAD, and have always used film for my personal photography. However, weddings are quite fast paced compared to controlled studio environments. An understanding of your camera settings and light meter are paramount.

The morning of the wedding started off slow and relaxed. I got to hang out with Lukas and the groomsmen while they got ready. Lukas and the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos with black bow ties.

Ceremony

Jamie and Lukas opted not to have a first look before their ceremony. The ceremony was later that morning in The Oak Room. Beautiful floral arrangements lined each row of seats. Four pillars with stunning floral arrangements served as a stunning ceremony backdrop.

As guests began to arrive, staff greeted everyone with mimosas and trays of various breakfast pastries. Guests mingled until they were asked to take their seats. Tamara Jones officiated the ceremony.

Fairmont Palliser weddings are known for their elevated and luxurious aesthetic. Following the ceremony, we used the Oak room for a few formal portraits before moving onto other areas of the hotel. We did not have to go far as the hotel offered plenty of elegant backdrops. From the grand staircase in the foyer to the elevators and even the hallways, the Palliser is easily one of Calgary’s most elegant venues.

Wedding Party Portraits

After a few portraits at the Palliser, we were off to Baker Park for wedding party photos. It was a hot, bright, sunny day in August. We found a quiet spot in the park that offered shade from the heat.

The girls’ pink bridesmaids dresses added the perfect romantic pop of colour to a summer wedding.

Private vows & Portraits

Jamie and Lucas took a moment to share some private vows following the wedding party portraits.

Reception

Their cocktail hour and reception were held at Mickelson Golf Club. The details were absolutely stunning! The clubhouse was transformed by Moments by Madeline and her incredible team. Every detail was perfect.

Jamie and Lukas did an outfit change for their grand entrance. Lukas changed into a white jacket and Jamie wore a beautiful white dress. A storm had rolled in during cocktail hour. Once the storm passed, we stepped out for some sunset photos. It was an incredible way to end such a beautiful day.

Final Thoughts On Jamie & Lukas’ fairmont palliser wedding

Overall, Jamie and Lukas’ wedding was nothing short of perfect and the film speaks for itself! This day taught me to slow down and trust the process (and my light meter). The soft, dreamy tones of film offer a timeless and nostalgic feel that digital sometimes just can’t compare to.
