Downtown Calgary Wedding at Venue 308

This stunning downtown Calgary wedding at Venue 308 was the perfect mix of timeless and old Hollywood elegance.

Alex & Zack’s downtown calgary wedding at venue 308 – getting ready

Alex and Zack had planned a beautiful downtown Calgary wedding at Venue 308 last fall. It was a beautiful autumn day with lots of sunshine. I knew that the harsh light and shadows in the front entry way of the venue would be the perfect spot for Alex’s detail photos. The beautiful stationery suite created by Seeking Light Studio added a beautiful touch of handcrafted luxury to the details. The stunning florals by Hue Florals combined deeper burgundy tones with softer pinks and white roses. Alex’s wedding dress was an elegant off the shoulder Pronovias dress from The Bridal Boutique. Zack wore a blue tweed three piece suit from Indochino.

While 2025 was unfortunately the final year of operation for Venue 308, (don’t worry you can still book some of their other amazing venues like The Brownstone and Studios at Vic Park) one of the things I love about the space is the getting ready suites available on site. Alex and Zack both got ready at the venue while remaining separate in preparation for their first look.

First Look

Alex and Zack shared a private first look in the ceremony space of Venue 308. Zack shed a tear when he turned around and saw Alex for the first time. She looked absolutely stunning! After taking a moment to soak it all in together, we headed off for portraits before the ceremony.

Portraits

Zack’s dad owns an award winning 1968 Firebird, which we used for some of the portraits. We quickly popped over to a parkade not far from the venue on a whim. This ended up being the perfect spot for a few photos with the car. Following their ceremony, we spent a few more minutes on some portraits around the venue including the groom’s suite for a few fun flash photos.

Your portraits don’t have to be scheduled in one big hour long time slot if it doesn’t align with you. In fact, splitting up your portrait time will create space for you to be present on your day and minimize the overwhelm of doing all the portraits consecutively. However, there is no one right answer to this approach.

Wedding Party Portraits At SVP

Venue 308 is directly connected to one of their sister venues: Studios at Vic Park. A stunning space with lots of natural light and white walls, making it an ideal location for portraits. In addition to being a great space for portraits, the bar makes it an ideal space for hosting cocktail hour.

We leaned into a mix of timeless and editorial portraits for the wedding party photos. The blue and pink colour palette of the wedding party attire was a timeless and chic. Specifically the pops of burgundy in the ties matching beautifully with the florals and complimenting the bridesmaids dresses without directly matching.

CEREMONY

A stunning linen sign greeted guests as they arrived for the ceremony. Votive candles lined aisle to a softly draped arch with small touches of florals throughout the space. The ceremony was officiated by Alex’s uncle. This added a special personalized touch to their ceremony. Alex and Zack shared personal vows to one another which were the perfect mix of heartfelt and light hearted.

COCKTAIL HOUR & RECEPTION

Cocktail hour was held in the Studios at Vic Park space. This made space for Lisa and the Everlasting Impressions team to work their magic and transform the main venue space into a romantic, candle lit setting in preparation for dinner. Bud vases with a single stem white roses in addition to the candles were the perfect classic yet minimalistic table centrepiece. As a nod to Alex’s Italian heritage, the wedding party wrapped streamers around the couple during their first dance as a symbol of good luck and well wishes.

Final Thoughts on Alex & Zack’s downtown calgary wedding at venue 308

Overall, Alex and Zack’s downtown Calgary wedding at Venue 308 was nothing short of magical. From timeless and minimalistic details to a cozy and intimate candlelit reception, their day was a seamless mix of elegance and old Hollywood glam. Alex and Zack’s loved ones made their day so incredibly special. Notably, Alex’s uncle officiating their ceremony, Zack’s father bringing his award winning classic car downtown for portraits to name a few. The entire room was filled with so much love for the couple. While Venue 308 will be missed, I’m looking forward to capturing more celebrations at their sister venues in the future.
