Downtown Calgary Engagement Session
I was so excited to shoot this session because when I first met with Sabrina, our initial consultation hardly felt business related. She’s so easy to talk to and I think we maybe sat in that Starbucks for an hour or more just chatting away. That vibe I get when I hit it off with a potential client IS THE BEST. So fast forward to engagement session day. It was a Monday afternoon and I felt like my mind had drawn a blank inspiration wise. A lot of photos have been done downtown, I had recently done another engagement session on Stephen Avenue, and the last thing I wanted was for my photos to look just like the last session or like anyone else’s. THE WORST time in the world to get hit with artist’s block. I knew that I didn’t want their engagement session to be overly traditional and I was trying to figure out the best way to execute it. Sabrina and Turner were so cool about letting me experiment with light and shadows downtown since it was noon and very very bright and beautiful out. We went to the arches at The Bay, where I used the light and shadows between the pillars to my advantage. Talk about rolling with the punches and the Universe having my back! After that we hit up the library and hit up my favourite coffee shop in the city: Calgary Heritage Roasting Company. Big shout out to Mike for being so cool and letting us shoot there! So here it is: My fun light experimentation from that Monday morning in February.
