Classic Editorial Engagement
For couples drawn to the chic and stylish vibes of Vogue, this classic editorial engagement session combined elegance and sophistication.
Setting The Scene- A Classic Editorial Engagement Session
Christine and Michael’s classic editorial engagement session brought us to downtown Calgary. When they initially inquired with me, Christine and Michael mentioned wanting their engagement photos to capture both urban and timeless photos. For location, they were specific about the iconic Bay Arches being one of the locations for their session.
Christine wore a chic white dress and white pearl heels. (We love a Jimmy Choo dupe) Michael complemented her outfit with black pants and a white button up shirt that was both stylish yet casual. Her gorgeous oval diamond engagement ring was the stunning cherry on top.
The Bay Arches – Digital and Film
I captured this beautiful session on both digital and film. One of the things I love about film photography is the soft tones and grain. It leaves space for imperfection, yet is not something that can be fully replicated by digital photography. Film does require a bit of slowing down and paying attention to your camera settings. While these photos are a bit more posed, don’t let that scare you away from adding film coverage to your wedding or session.
We explored downtown from the Bay Arches, to the steps of the Palliser. The stunning Grecian architecture that Teatro had to offer was our final stop. I took some time to experiment with using flash with one of my film cameras. I wanted to see if the flash and camera were compatible. As a result, I took some of my favourite photos at the end of the evening.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, Christine and Michael’s classic editorial engagement session was one of my favourites from 2025. I will never get tired of the historic architecture around Stephen Avenue. The area offers a refined backdrop for couples hoping to emanate a sophisticated look for their engagement photos. In addition, this session allowing me to experiment more with film allowed me to grow. This camera and flash combo has been my go to for so many weddings and sessions since then. I can’t wait to continue to capture more incredible memories on film.
